Volunteers will be looking for Mardi Gras beads hidden in the trash. If found, they will redeem them for prizes at the picnic. Join us on foot or in a small craft for this really fun and 'valuable' event. A limited number of kayaks and jon boats will be available or bring your own!

FREE food and drinks at Dove Park. Redeem 'found' Mardi Gras beads for great prizes.

Keep Grapevine Beautiful Membership:

Formed in 1999, KGVB organizes events and ongoing activities that make Grapevine a more beautiful place to live. Events include waterway and park clean-ups via foot and small craft, beautification projects, educational formats, community gardening, electronic recycling and hazardous waste collection. In 2009, KGVB won three prestigious awards due to volunteer efforts. In fact, for every $1.00 spent on volunteer projects, citizens received a $ 5.00 return on the investment. Now that's valuable.

We encourage you to be our guest at a monthly committee meeting and learn what this dynamic organization is all about. KGVB meets the first Monday of each month at 7:00 P.M. at City Hall (200 S. Main St). Enter the breakroom from the side entrance. Or visit kgvb.org or Facebook to hear more. Online applications to volunteer or donate to this valuable cause are available on the website. Memberships start as low as $ 25.00.
Join us for a monthly meeting to see what's going on with this incredible group. These great groups of volunteers are all about a Greener, Cleaner Grapevine for all to enjoy. Join today!

Congratulations Keep America Beautiful Winners

kabmjoandmatt2.jpgTexas affiliates had a strong showing at the 2009 Keep America Conference, which was held December 1-4 in Washington, D.C. We didn't just attend for kicks, however-- in addition to the educational benefits and networking opportunities, Texans also brought home a bevy of awards. Keep Texas Beautiful wants to congratulate Keep Grapevine Beautiful/Phi Theta Kappa's Honors in Action Academy for 1st place, Beautification. MaryJo Tellin, Director received the award from CEO of KAB, Mr. Matt McKenna.

Keep Grapevine Beautiful

Group Advocate of the Year Award

This outstanding award was presented to Keep Grapevine Beautiful from The Texas Recreation and Park Society at their 2009 Regions 2 & 3 Conference on November 13, 2009. Keep Grapevine Beautiful (KGVB) has contributed extensive volunteer time to the betterment of the parks system in Grapevine since 2001. Their advocacy in enhancing greenspace was proven yet again when 2,138 volunteers worked 8,070 hours in just the last year alone. KGVB has also contributed funds for beautification and education through their school district grant program and has donated equipment and manpower to 42 greening projects throughout the previous year. They wholeheartedly deserve the Advocate of the Year Award due to the significant contributions they have made to the environment and Grapevine community.

Representing the Grapevine Parks and Recreation Department, the City of Grapevine and KGVB volunteers were L-R front row- MaryJo Tellin, Karen McKergow, Kathy Reece, Jennifer Hibbs and Doug Evans. L-R back row- Tim Hamilton, David Buhr, Bruno Rumbelow and Joe Moore

The focus of KGVB is to-

  • increase recycling, litter control, beautification and water quality
  • implement educational programs and grant funding for both youth and adult
  • engage the general public as volunteers in enhancing Grapevine's greenspace

The Keep Grapevine Beautiful Annual Report included the following statistics. The reported project period was July 1, 2008 - June 31, 2009.

  • 42 projects
  • 8,070 volunteer hours worked
  • $128,456 value of volunteers
  • $3,524 donated goods or services (outside sources)
  • $3,420 cost avoidance (donated city crew  time)
  • $ 12,815 donated goods (City/PARD)
  • For every $1.00 spent on volunteer projects, $5.00 in benefit was returned to the park system.

These successes have been largely due to the tremendous support given to them by the Parks & Recreation Department of Grapevine. Directors, foreman, managers and hourly staff have all contributed by being in the field and working side-by-side with thousands of volunteers who have worked toward the betterment of the park system. The department has also been instrumental by providing vehicles, tools and supplies for the multitude of volunteer projects conducted throughout the city.

Adopt-An-Area Team

Now is a Great Opportunity to help Keep Grapevine Beautiful with the Adopt-An-Area Team. Currently, there are 47 extrememly appreciated volunteer groups in Grapevine. They are our Adopt-an-Area teams. Sometimes, it is a business group or a social group and often a family volunteering together. They have selected an area within the city to keep litter free. The team may have chosen a road, a creek, a playground, a shoreline or a boat dock among many choices. They visit the area 6 times a year and tidy-up. The City supplies bags and gloves. A sign is erected in their name along the path of the adopted area. It's an enjoyable and easy way to assist your community and is sincerely appreciated by the citizens of Grapevine. For an application, visit Get Involved or please contact Mary Jo at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
