Recognition Corner
December 2012

In November, Karen McKergow, was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award for volunteerism with Keep Grapevine Beautiful with over 20 years of contributing to a Greener, Cleaner Grapevine. When Karen first began with the organization, then a small group of 8, she single handedly organized and executed citywide clean-ups. She did everything from putting up posters to cooking hotdogs to hauling away the trash. As she further developed the organization, education was her focus where she made great contributions by designing educational expo booths full of fun facts and figures. The kids (and the grown-ups) learned so much. Now, fast forward many years and you will now find Karen as the KGVB webmaster! KGVB had no website until Karen came along and look at it now. Wow! KGVB is honored to work with a volunteer like Karen whose dedication, hard work and sense of humor has survived the massive changes that have occurred with KGVB. So, in December, we celebrate our very special gift … Karen McKergow!
January 2013

Only one man has had the foresight in envisioning the value of developing Keep Grapevine Beautiful and the volunteer manpower behind it and that’s Mr. Joe Moore. Joe is considered our Founding Father and was recently bestowed an award with just that name. Joe has been a professional in the Parks field for the past 35 years. He has seen it all and done it all and lucky for KGVB, he has taught it all to us. Joe has been beyond supportive in all KGVB projects and schemes even our wackiest attempts at being green. For that we are so grateful! Joe to walks the walk and talks the talk. He always picks up a piece of litter in the street, grows his own crops and recycles just about everything in his household. His wife does the same. Joe Moore is solid and steady and is THE reason KGVB is what it is today. We could go on and on with stories and attributes so let’s just say … simply an amazing man!
February 2013

Here’s a Grapevine resident like no other and we mean that literally. This gal on a daily basis for the past three plus years has walked the shorelines and park land and picked up other’s litter; bags and bags too numerous to count. Her name is Ros Leighton and we are proud and honored to recognize her this month! Ros, being a beautiful lady from England knows much about sustainability and green space. Lucky for us, she has brought her passions to the U.S. and specifically Grapevine where she beautifies on a daily basis. How does the saying go … rain nor sleet or snow will keep them away … Ros is out there no matter the weather. Ros also captures the prize for most unusual items found and most hysterical scenarios that have taken place as she meets people in the parks. Everyone knows her and everyone loves and appreciates her as do we! Thank you Ros for your incredibly dedicated service to KGVB!
